bikkies bumper stickers deluge downpour exhibition launch leaks MCA Museum verandah wheelchair

We were joined by Lynda from Royal Far West, Betty and her students from Kingsgrove, and Tony and a group from Nepean High, who were all able to revisit their hard work which is such a big part of the project. The newspapers came down, there were speeches and curious museum staff sneaked out of the office to check out this caravan they’d all been hearing so much about.

…and then the rains came down! The hard core huddled under the caravan’s built in “verandah” as the bumper stickers got a bit soggy. The roof held out, but after two days of driving rain, the van today sprung a leak! It’s currently sheltering under a big tarpaulin while the MCA’s crack team of technicians fill the gaps with silicone. It is 46 years old, after all!
On Friday morning, under ominously grey skies, the ribbon was cut, coffee and bikkies handed out, as the Good Vibrations caravan finally came home to the front lawn of the MCA. Loaded up with images, sounds and movies from all the locations we’ve visited, (not to mention bumper stickers from each place too!) the mobile art workshop has now become a fully fledged interactive art installation in its own right.

[On the good-news side, we’re happy to announce that the MCA has a brand new wheelchair ramp, making our grand Circular Quay entrance finally accessible!!]
